Kararaina (Kara) affiliates to Ngai Tuhoe and Ngāti Porou and has lived in Hastings for many years, moving from Murupara. Kara worked in Flaxmere for many years supporting young people and whānau.
In 2021, Kara was acknowledged as a Living Taonga by Te Taiwhenua O Heretaunga at its Matariki Awards. She is known to many as 'Nan'.
