Over the last year, the entire world almost came to a standstill and here in Aotearoa New Zealand, we learned how to appreciate what we had in our own backyards. Everything that was familiar to us took on fresh meaning as we came to realise how fortunate we are to live where we do. We began to find pleasure in simple things - visiting the places that were around us growing up and that we’d perhaps taken for granted. This collection of art works reflects that sense of seeing familiar things with a fresh appreciation of them. Some subjects are natural landmarks and some are botanical subjects – I put this down to being aware of the small things as well as the big things. Playing with scale offers fresh perspectives.
