My name is Shona Jones and I’m passionate about art and natural beauty. I grew up in Hawke’s Bay in New Zealand as part of a family that was (and still is) part of the shearing industry which serviced the farming community in the region.
As a child, I spent a lot of time travelling the dusty back roads to out of the way farms and during the school holidays earning pocket money by picking tomatoes, boysenberries or beans or in the orchards. We lived in an old home that was on the outskirts of Hastings back then but the area has now been developed. Around the corner was Frimley Park, with its ancient trees, meticulously laid out rose garden and large open playing fields.
At the time, I didn’t realise that all of these things had left an indelible mark on me – that the landscape we live in and have grown up in shapes our view of life. It seems to flow through to the art that I want to create. Full of colour and abundance and simple beauty.
My natural style would be realism though occasionally producing some looser, more painterly pieces as a nod to the work of my favourite artists.
I hope you find something on these pages to enjoy!
